If you came to Arknights: Endfield expecting the tower-defense loop of the original mobile game, recalibrate now. Hypergryph rebuilt the franchise as a real-time 3D action RPG welded to an automation sandbox that owes as much to Factorio and Satisfactory as it does to any gacha. You control a four-Operator squad in live combat, but the fuel that powers your entire progression comes from conveyor belts, smelters, and production lines running while you're offline. Getting good at Endfield means getting good at both halves, and beginners who ignore the factory stall hard around the mid-game.
This guide walks you through the combat fundamentals, how to spend your early pulls, and how to bootstrap the Automated Industry Complex (AIC) without drowning in blueprints.
Combat: Manage the Squad, Not Just One Character
Endfield combat is real-time, but it rewards tactical thinking over button-mashing. You field four Operators and freely swap the one you directly control while the AI runs the other three. Every Operator belongs to one of six classes, and the early ones you'll want to understand are:
- Guard — frontline bruisers who apply vulnerable and physical debuffs. Your anchor.
- Caster — ranged art (magic) damage that triggers elemental art reactions.
- Striker — a second primary damage dealer that weakens enemies with physical or magical effects.
- Defender, Support, and Specialist round out the roster with tanking, healing, and utility.
The core skill loop is Auto-attack to build skill points, then spend them on Operator skills and the powerful Ultimate. Because you're commanding a squad, positioning matters: pull ranged Casters back, keep your Guard between enemies and your squishies, and rotate control to whoever has an Ultimate ready. A few habits that pay off immediately:
- Dodge on reaction, not prediction. Endfield's dodge has generous i-frames; use it to reposition, not to spam.
- Stack art reactions. Applying an elemental status with one Operator and detonating it with another is where your real damage lives. Learn which of your characters synergize.
- Let the AI tank the trash. Save manual control for elites and bosses. Micromanaging every mob wastes your attention.
Don't over-invest promotion materials into a character you're not sure you'll keep. Level a solid core of four to five Operators rather than spreading resources thin.
Pulls and Roster: Spend Deliberately
Like every gacha, Endfield uses a pity system, so your currency is precious. The beginner mistakes are always the same: pulling on the wrong banner and leveling too many units.
- Prioritize the beginner/standard banner first. It's cheaper and guarantees a solid foundation.
- Don't chase every limited unit. A well-built team of versatile 5-star and 6-star Operators clears the entire early and mid-game. Meta chasing is a mid-game concern.
- Value classes over rarity. A good Guard and a good healer will carry you further than a second flashy DPS.
- Save your premium pulls until you've read the current banner's rate-up and confirmed the unit fits your team, not just your wishlist.
Build one complete team of four before you think about a second. Depth comes later.
